A Clincopathologic Study on IgA Hephropathr in Children

Abstract
The authors studied 29 cases of IgA nephropathy who were admitted to Department of Pediatrics, Yonsei medical center from January 1979
to December 1984.
A review of clinical and pathological findings revealed as follows:
1) Ages of onset were between 3.9 and 15. 3 years (mean 13.3 years), and male to female ratio was 4.8: 1.
2) On admission, chief complaints were gross hematuria(23 cases), microscopy hematuria(2 cases) and periorbital edema, urinary frequency, dysuria, fever, etc.
3) Among 23 cases of gross hematuria, suspected predisposing factors were U.R.I. (17 cases) and heavy exercise (3 cases), but no predisposing factors in 3 cases. The interval between predisposing factor and gross hematuria was within 72 hours in al: cases.
4) In 13 cases, hypertension, renal insufficiency or 24 hours proteinuria above 150 Mg were noted but there was no correlation between clinya class and histologic grading (p>0.05).
Mean serum IgA level was 234.9-107.58 mg/d1 and increased in 13 cases.
5) The follow up study was done in 15 case: Microscopic hematuria continued in 14 cases an disappeared in only 1 case. Gross hematuria recurrc in 3 cases.
There was no end stage renal failure in of study.
